In this week’s video, John Ivison is joined by Steve Verheul, who was Canada’s chief trade negotiator when the new NAFTA deal was struck with the Trump Administration and Mexico in 2018. There has been a great deal of speculation about what might happen to Canada-U.S. trade relations under another Trump presidency, given that his trade agenda calls for 10 percent tariffs on all imports to the U.S. But less well known is that the USMCA deal must be renewed in 2026, regardless of who is in the White House.
